Spring Break 2009

Well, I guess posting on here once a year is just about right. :)

I will link to this on KPs blog, but I just don't feel right posting it there.  So, here we are . :)

Dylan had spring break off this year.  We found out kind of at the last minute, so I didn't have a chance to plan as well as I could have. :)  So, we just went down the list of things that we meant to do last year when we moved in that still haven't been done. :)  And that took us to the master bedroom.

I have decided that we are now going to take the house one room at a time.  The problem with that is that each room seems to be connected in some way to another room, so our hallway has become the overflow for all of that stuff.  So, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to maneuver around our house.  We need to finish this up quick!

But I digress.  Dylan had a whole week off and we decided that the master bedroom would be the best place for him to spend that week.  We kept KP with the nanny and we...well, mostly Dylan, got to work (Spring Break is one of my busiest times of year at work).

Our closet has gone through a couple of transformations since we moved in.  Here is the only time it was ever a closet. I think this was the day we got the keys to the house (notice the carpet still on the floor).

We have never used it as a closet, but we have used it as a headboard for most of the time that we have lived here.  But, I decided to rearrange the bedroom, and that left us with this gaping hole that just didn't feel right.  I don't need a closet because we have the ikea wardrobes, so what to do with that space?  Well, if you know me at all, you know that I am a HUGE bibliophile and never feel at home unless I am surrounded by books, so....

During the transformation (this is while we were both working on it):

Yay! Painted!

And finally, books added (the other side looks just the same):
The sad thing is that I have now installed 2 bookcases and two shelves and my hallway is still lined with boxes of books.  Before we brought all of the boxes in from the garage, I was talking to Dylan about lining our hall with shallow bookcases for paperbacks.  And taking over other rooms of our house with bookcases as well.  Here's how that conversation went:

Margot: Do you think that I'm overestimating how many books I have?  Maybe I'm just going a little crazy because I love books so much, but maybe what we have going on in the closet will be enough space.

Dylan: Yeah, probably.  I think you're planning for as many books as you wish you had.  We can work on that later, but I think the closet will be enough storage for now.

Then we brought in what we think are all of the boxes of books....but I think there are more hiding.  And I have filled my bookcases, and I still have boxes in our bedroom and lining the hallway FULL of books.  Granted, some of them are going away in the garage sale, but I'm still left with a pretty full library.  And that is BEFORE I start filling out my collection with replacements for damaged/lost books, and just filling it out with the books that are essential to any library.  Lookout. :)

So, now all I need is a great reading chair and a rug and my reading nook will be done.  I keep going back and forth between a loveseat and a chair.  I think the chair will be more comfortable, but I think the loveseat will be better if KP wants to come visit.

Okay, so the next project was the bathroom.

Here is the master bath when we got the keys:

I wanted a blue bathroom so badly, but we went with leftover blue paint from KPs room, and it just didn't work out right.

While Dylan was "cutting in":

Finished product (we painted it the same color as the bedroom - sorry for the bad lighting):

Yesterday, the big piece we were waiting on came in, my new bedspread. Yay. :)  Please excuse the arrangement.  I haven't had a chance to properly fill my European Shams yet, and I am not an expert pillow arranger...yet. :)

Those were the major projects for the break.  Dylan also did the first good mowing of our lawn for the season.  And this year we are actually *gasp* fertilizing our lawn.  So, we'll see how it goes.  Do you know how hard it is to find the right combination of weed/feed when you have San Augustine grass?  The answer is very hard.  We have this weird smattering of San Augustine mixed in with Bermuda.  I want to feed the San Augustine so that it will choke out the Bermuda, but I think that is a project for another year.

So, this is already outdated, but so many of you have not seen any pictures of our new home yet, so here they are. I didn't want to take up a lot of Everett's blog with our house, so I created this blog. I'm not sure how often I will update here, but feel free to subscribe so that you will know when we do.

For now this is a blog about our house. It may become more later.

As always,
xoxo
